Sweep and Mop

Richard Waialeale

Matthew 12:43-45 (NIV)
43 "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.
44 Then it says, 'I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.
45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation."
The sign of Jonah ends with Jesus condemning the Pharisees calling them a bunch of sign-seekers. The Pharisees never did let God into their hearts therefore leaving themselves wide open for Satan to enter. Jesus compares them to a house that is swept clean and put in religious order. The same is like putting your house in order, but there's still dirt under the rug. Anyone can sweep their house clean, but it takes a good scrubbing and mopping that really makes a house clean. The same is with our hearts. We must scrub and mop it clean, and not just sweep the dust under the rug. It’s still there.
If the devil knows there are still some dirt in my heart, it will just be an easy way back in. I need to do some good house cleaning and spend time scrubbing deep in my heart, soul and spirit. Jesus can heal, comfort and bring wholeness into my life. Then I must say in the name of Jesus and let him show me the deep dirt that I must start mopping and scrubbing clean in my heart.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD...” (Jeremiah 29:13-14a). That’s the cry of my heart Lord that I will seek You with all my heart in Jesus Name I Pray. Amen.
