Wimpy Witness

Rod Shimabukuro

And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly. Luke 22:61-62
At the Passover meal, Peter boldly committed to live and die for Jesus. Jesus corrected Peter saying that he would deny Him. I wonder what the look in Peter’s eyes were when he boldly declared to die for Jesus? I wonder what Jesus’ eyes looked like - in compassion and truth, correcting Peter’s courageous confession?

Then the encounter and meeting of their eyes - after Peter denies Jesus 3 times, just as He said Peter would. Peter must’ve felt sooooooo sick inwardly - realizing that he did not live up to his bold, courageous declaration! Bitter weeping, uncontrollable feeling of being condemned. Peter’s denial of Jesus would be a mentoring lesson used by God, to develop his heart into one of the fiercest disciples who ever lived!
There’s hope for me. There are times where I seem to deny Jesus, by not responding in boldness to His promptings to witness to people - to strangers - even to non Christian friends. I say that I would die for Christ - but would I? Do i now? What a convicting thought!
I want to live differently by growing in boldness and confidence in Jesus. Even overcoming the defeats of disobediences - when I fail Him, being a wimpy witness for Jesus. How do I overcome?
  1. Overcome fear - speak simple, kind words, including God’s name, Jesus’ name.
  2. Pray for boldness, then pray for opportunities to witness.
  3. I need to get better at number 2. I always seem to be aware of being a witness - but I need help with #1 and #2.
Am I ready Lord? Yes I am! I know you are going to take me up on this devotional prayer and confession. Help me Lord. Forgive me for my past wimpiness. Help me to be a Bold and Courageous Witness in life and word!
