Seeing others pain when I'm in pain

Richard Waialeale

Job 2:9-10 (NIV)
9 His wife said to him, "Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!"
10 He replied, "You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?" In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.

In the New Testament, the Bible says (Phil. 2:5) that I must have an attitude like Jesus Christ - okay I understand that. And then it says (1 Peter 4:1), that since Jesus suffered and underwent pain, I must have, again, the same attitude like Him, and be ready to suffer.
One of the keys to having an attitude like Jesus is to always be on the lookout for other people who are hurting, even when I’m hurting. I don’t just help people when things are going great in my life, but to help people when things stink in my life. The reason the Bible says to have an attitude like Jesus because when Jesus was on the Cross, in excruciating pain, in His dying moment - He’s looking around to see is anybody else in pain that He can help. Mary, his mother, John the disciple and He even saved another person hanging on a cross next to Him.
When I’m in pain, use this time to grow closer to God and use it to help others.
How should I do this?

The key to getting over your grief, your pain and suffering is to refocus. Grief is a good thing and you don’t just shut it down. The Bible says, “Blessed are those who mourn.” But while I’m grieving and suffering, there comes a time I need to Refocus and look around and say, “is there anybody else suffering, n worse pain then I am. That’s the way to refocus. For instance:
I lost my job but who’s worse off than me?
I’m in pain but who’s in more pain than me?
I’m in a tough relationship, but who’s in worse relational difficulty? You look around and you look for ways to refocus. And I see other people’s pain even when I’m in pain. Refocus.
By doing this, by refocusing - I am drawing closer to Jesus.

Jesus wants to give you his best, just like he wanted to do for his best friend and his mother, while He was suffering on the Cross.
He could only give them his best if they were close to him because he’s whispering to them from the cross.
If you want God’s best in your life, if I want God’s best in my life, we’ve got to get close to Jesus, because the answer to every one of our needs is always at the foot of the cross.
Dear God, you know the pain that I’m going through. I have to admit that it doesn’t cause me to think much about other people. But I want to learn to love you more and more - Jesus. Help me to see other people’s pain even when I’m in pain, to have the attitude of Jesus. I know you want to give me your best but I can’t receive it unless I’m close to you. So I want to stand at the foot of the cross, and I want to be closer to you in 2011, more than ever before. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
