Prepare Them Well

Tim Savage

1So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. Hebrews 2
I remember in college I met a lot of people who didn’t believe in Jesus or God. There were a lot of very smart kids in my school and sometimes it was a challenge to stand firm in my beliefs. I’m glad that my parents raised me in a Christian home and that I learned about Jesus early in my life because I found out later that there would be times when people would question me, sometimes really smart people would debate with me and thankfully I was strong enough to defend my faith. The easier path would have been to keep quiet or just blend in with the others, then you don’t have to call attention to yourself or stand with the minority. The Bible teaches us that our faith will be tested and that people may deride us for loving Jesus. This verse in Hebrews is a good reminder that we can’t cave in to other people’s beliefs, we must stand firm in our love for Jesus Christ even if we might be unpopular because of it. Our treasures are being stored up in heaven and our time on earth is just a fleeting breath, a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow. My good friend Ed Jose passed away just 2 days ago and he wasn’t too much older than me. He lived a good life steadfast in his love and service for Jesus and even though he will be missed here on earth he is in a better place in the glorious embrace of our Heavenly Father for eternity.
This morning, on my birthday, I am so blessed to be doing devotions with my 2 wonderful children, hopefully, preparing them for what lies ahead in their future. My prayer is that they will stand strong in their love and belief in their Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ. We are the salt of the earth and we must not blend in or we will lose our savor and salt with out its savor is worthless.
Dear Heavenly Father, Help each of us to grow deeper in our faith and love of You. Help us to influence those around us and represent You well. In Jesus name, Amen
