My Heart, Your Altar

Rod Shimabukuro

[19]But now, if the land of your possession is unclean, pass over into the LORD's land where the LORD's tabernacle stands, and take for yourselves a possession among us. Only do not rebel against the LORD or make us as rebels by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God. [20]Did not Achan the son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity.’”
(Joshua 22:19-20)
Reuben, Gad and Manasseh built an altar that brought offense to the other Israelite tribes. They were thought to be rebelling against the Lord having built this altar close to the border of the Israelites. The priest Phinehas and leaders discover that the altar is acceptable. I love their spiritual leadership, being proactive, digging into the situation. They didn’t allow more time to past, for grudges and bad-mouthing between the tribes to occur.
The altar of my heart belongs to Jesus. Yet I struggle with setting up altars of worldliness, possessions, prestige, position, power - my self seeking, self centeredness is always wanting to build it’s own altars.

But I must put my evil and rebellious desires and motives on the one, true altar of my burn these idols, to be forgiven, cleansed - made clean - over and over again.

I also want to be an uncompromising leader who doesn’t let things slide - when there are “scents” of sin. Check it out - be ready to butcher it. Better to ere on the side of righteousness and following God’s rules - than compromise...
Help me Jesus - to be a man who lives with integrity and love. The altar of my heart belongs to You. I dedicate my heart, soul, mind and life to You!
