Spiritual battlesRichard Waialeale
1 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV)3 so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. You know quite well that we were destined for them.
Back in the days of the Old Testament, the spiritual battles that these Christians faced were fierce and with many of the paganism around, life can be challenging with trials not brought on by God, but simply existing around them. When troubles comes it’s important to recognize and be aware of the darkness around and then immediately tune into to God for help. A few days ago we sent a group into the Women’s Community Correctional Center in Kailua, for a service. Upon entering and before setting up we had time for corporate prayer. Later, I walked around the perimeter of the court yard, I could feel the darkness in the prison and it’s as if something gripped me. I felt discomfort and unsettled with why I was there in the first place. So I started to pray over each chair. Then I sat down and prayed that God would have me see these women prisoners the way He sees them, help me think and feel for them as He thinks and feel for them and love them as only God loves them. Later on when the worship began, the first person I looked at began weeping before we even got started. The Holy Spirit had removed the darkness and filled this person and the next thing I realize that the same Spirit had just gripped me - and I thought to myself, “Yeah Man!”
I always feel that the power of prayer, the Holy Spirit and getting tuned into God will remove any darkness causing any kind of unsettled feelings. During the time of Worship, praising God brought on instant healing and comfort, and for that moment we drew closer to God.
Father thank you for the times when feeling unsettled I can draw closer to You for comfort and peace. When the darkness around us grips us we simply turn to You and You hold us in Your arms protecting us and giving us the strength and courage to carry out Your works. I continue to pray for the women in WCCC for Your strength and courage over the spiritual battles they face. I pray that they will seek You and find You when they seek You with all their hearts - In Jesus Name. Amen.
