The New Promise

Richard Waialeale

Hebrews 8:10 (NIV)
10 This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
The old covenant was limited and forgiveness was accomplished by the sacrifices of animals over and over. The new covenant was accomplished once and for all by Christ’s sacrifice (Hebrews 7:27, He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself).
The old covenant had judgment and fear at its core, while the new covenant is based on His grace and His promise. The new covenant is God’s promise to everyone that we can know God through Jesus if we receive and trust in his blood as the payment for our sin.
My salvation and eternal life is not based on my performance or my choice, it’s based on his performance and God’s choice.
So when I come to Jesus I’m asking him to save me from myself, from the world and from my sin. I need your grace, I need a second chance - save me. And Jesus will take me right where I’m at and start to change me one step at a time. I must cooperate with him. That’s the beauty of the new covenant, that’s the love of Jesus.
Lord, thank you for loving me and choosing me to be one of your own. I thank you for dying for my sins and for the your grace. Amen.
