Purposeful Life

Richard Waialeale

"Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work--this is a gift of God. He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart." (Ecclesiastes 5:19-20)
Ecclesiastes is a book on the philosophy of life when our faith is not centered on God (meaningless and purposeless). The same can be said when we lose focus on Jesus, when we take our eyes off of Him and try carry on with Christ.

In verses (5) 19 & 20, the accumulation of wealth, no matter if big or small is not an end in itself, or the only thing that matters. It's what we do with how much God gives us to steward that makes life joyful, meaningful and purposeful. When scripture says God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart, it's because of our focus on Jesus and occupying our mind on the things of God. In the O.T., Jacob was married to Leah and Rachel. Leah was first when it came to having children, a gift from God, and lot's of them. But when it came to receiving love from her husband, she only got a little. But whatever little she did get out of Jacob, she was resourceful. God loves people who don't need much and can be resourceful with what is given to them. Being occupied with gladness of heart for what God gives us, no matter if its little or a lot.
Make life meaningful and purposeful with whatever the lot that God gives me. Keep my eyes focused on Him and He will not only make my paths straight, but God will show me favor, gladness, meaning and purpose for the plans He has for me. When Jacob was to marry Rachel. his uncle Laban made him work seven years for free before he could marry Rachel. The Bible says, seven years seemed like only a few days - like nothing. It's where Jacobs focus was. This teaches me to keep my eyes on Jesus. I'm not missing life, I'm enjoying life because of whom my eye's are focused on - Jesus. When I reflect on the goodness of God, he occupies me with the gladness of heart.
Thank you Lord for loving me much and giving me the wealth of loving You. I pray for the souls that still don't know the love of Jesus and that I will be of some part in their lives to draw them closer to discovering their true wealth and purpose. Amen.
