Struggles Prove My Commitment

Marcus Sanders

"But we are not like those who turn their backs on God and seal their fate. We have faith that assures our salvation." (Hebrews 10:39)
God gives us saving faith, which brings us into a relationship with Him. But faith is active and moves upward. We climb up places to become mature believers. Sometimes the climb is steep, sometimes, sharp, sometimes slippery, and sometimes hot, but God know exactly what I need to become like Him.

Some believers in Hebrews were excited in what Jesus did for them but they did not want the struggle of the climb. The persecution was the line that was drawn that caused them to shrink back to their old life style. For some they became secret believers.
When God looks for leaders he looks for those who stand firm. They'll be times when a knee may buckle or faith may waver, but can he or she rise above it to stand.

What made Moses do what he did in his assignment to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?
What made Elisha to remain standing against the King who was trying to kill him?
What made Daniel to stand in spite of the decree to bow down to foreign gods?
What made Jesus stand in spite of the beatings, insults, and the death he faced?

It was God's Spirit living in them. In spite of human frailties, faith in God is the ultimate factor to stand.

I've had those moments with challenges when I thought it was a time to quit, or do something else in the church, become a volunteer and let someone else lead, but no matter how I feel, I've come back to my commitment to serve God with all my heart. To shrink from that commitment is to loose faith in God. None of us want resistance but what I've discovered is that resistance and challenges proof my commitment to follow Christ. Struggles deepen more than lightens my commitment to God if I will face it with faith. Climbing in faith reaches the God's mountaintops.
Father thank you for the challenges You place in my life. Sometimes I grumble why, but as I look Your way I see a greater reason for it. I do want to become a greater communicator and leader. Teach me Holy Spirit. I need Your power in my life.
