Opportunity Knocks

Richard Waialeale

"But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness." (Hebrews 3:13)
When scripture talks about sin's deceitfulness, the author is probably talking about developing a hard, unbelieving heart that pulls us away from God. To counter this bad attitude, the Bible says to encourage each other every day starting with today. So the opportunity that knocks, starts in our hearts - Today. The Bible is teaching me to cease the moment, today, and begin seeing the opportunity to encourage those God places right in front of me immediately. I often take for granted the time I think I have. In the past I would say, "bum-by'" or later on. When you think about it, we don't know when Christ will return so I must treat each day with a sense of urgency, as an opportunity to cease the moment, right here. right now.
I need to be all that I can be like Jesus, to think like Jesus and walk like Jesus. There is a worship song that reminds me to "shine the light and let the whole world see ." "For the glory of the risen King - Jesus." Everyday, I have the opportunity to choose to be like Jesus. To encourage people now and to show people that Jesus lives inside of me by my faith and actions. Who knows that this will probably be the only Jesus people may ever see. Encouraging one another is to be like Jesus and it starts with me - Today.
Lord I thank you for your examples and truth that I get to shine the light of Jesus to those that may not know you. I pray for each day that I will be changed into the likeness of Christ and that I may be a reflection of You to those around me. Amen.
