PASTORS' DAILY DEVOTIONAL
First things firstMicah Simpson
2 Chronicles 29:3,5 " 3 In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the LORD and repaired them. 5 Then he said to them, “Listen to me, O Levites. Consecrate yourselves now, and consecrate the house of the LORD, the God of your fathers, and carry the uncleanness out from the holy place." James 4:8 "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded."
As soon as Hezekiah became king, he took care of the most important thing in jerusalem; the house of the Lord. He gathered all the priests and Levites and they set themselves to making the house holy and clean so that the presence of the Lord could once again dwell there. In the OT, Gods presence filled the temple. In the NT, the fullness of Gods presence fills Jesus, and when we put our faith in Christ, we become one with Him and then the fullness of the presence of God resides in us. This is why James tells us to cleanse our hands and purify our hearts, because our body is the house of the Lord. It's not like Gods presence will leave us when we sin, but sin will cause spiritual death in our lives.
I am reminded this morning that I am the house of the Lord. And that the fullness of God dwells within me because I am his son through faith in Jesus. With this in mind, I realize that I need to be intentional about removing sin and wickedness from my life. Hezekiah even tells the people not to be negligent in making the house of God holy, because it was an important work. I truly desire to be a clean and pure vessel, available for God to use me for the work of the kingdom.
Lord I pray that I would continue to come to you daily in repentance and in desperation. I never want to think in my heart that I am doing fine on my own, I truly desire to depend on you and rely on you for everything! I pray that I would be diligent to guard my heart, and my mind, because my body is your house, and I desire it to be holy so that your life giving presence can continue to work in me. Thank you that you love me so much that you would be close to me, and that you would rest your presence on my life!
