Big Brother Trust

John Tilton

Jeremiah 17:5-8

“Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who draws strength from mere flesh
and whose heart turns away from the Lord.That person will be like a bush in the wastelands;
they will not see prosperity when it comes.
 They will dwell in the parched places of the desert,
in a salt land where no one lives.“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah restates a profound truth that although we have a tendency to trust in those around us who we feel can help us along our way; it is only the Lord that we truly can put our trust in. There are those that indeed helpful, but man has a innate propensity to be self focused. There is an old saying “The law of the land is self-preservation.” And it is in those times of challenge, conflict or when it becomes one’s needs over another, that man will let man down. However, the Lord is faithful, even if He requires us to be stretched and challenged, our trust in faith in Him will give us peace without fear, if we stay focused in His word which encourages, teaches and strengthens us, and prayer that enable us to connect with Him

I’ve watched the TV program Big Brother as it intrigues me how much deceit can take place amongst the players even though they know that each of them will at one point or all the time lie to others to forward their game. Although they all know that they all will lie, they try to gain alliances to be truthful to certain players. Yet it so funny how they can lie with a straight face or throw their ally who they made a truthful pact with, under the bus … self-preservation. My trust, faith and connection needs to be with God first, being open to others but not relying on man before God.

Dear Lord, thank you for reminding me that you need to come first in my life, and although their may be good people that will lend a hand, my trust and faith must first come in you and then be willing to see how others who offer help align with you, your Word and your principles.
