Proverbs 24:26 An honest answeris like a kiss on the lips.
Such a short phrase, but as it is with Proverbs, such profound content, teaching and meaning. It is often that people will tell one another what they perceive one wants to hear, or what will support their own desires and goals. Most people also tend to want to be people pleasers or saying things that will boast their ego or perception of themselves. Yet, the scripture is so true, that a straight and honest answer is best. It is like a kiss on the lips from a loved one. I also like the metaphor that speaks to me hear of a kiss on the lips being like a affirmation of allowing truth and honesty coming from the lips which verbalize what we say.
I do find myself at times doing all of the above by choosing words and saying things to be a people pleaser, telling people perhaps what they want to hear, boasting perception of who I am or what I've done and saying things that will support my goals. I know that God is speaking to me to let my yes be yes, my no be no and my communication being straight forward. Yet I do want to communicate with grace, understanding and sincerity.
Lord, thank you for reminding me of the importance of my words and that what comes forth from my mouth will always be guided by what is in my heart. May you always guide my heart and subsequently my mind and my lips in what I say and do.
