Faith In The Unseen

John Tilton

Hebrews 11:1-3 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
I just love these scriptures of faith. It's just not in our human DNA to have confidence and believe in things we cannot see, right? Yet, as I read further, I am amazed and encouraged throughout the rest of the chapter of Hebrews to read examples of all the people of the Bible that walked in faith in matters that they did not see or realize what they hoped for, in their lifetime. However, we read that God was indeed faithful. They did what they were directed to do or asked based on their trust and relationship with God. More so, many of the Biblical mentors sacrificed much and were persecuted for their faith.
So how does someone like myself who is anal and like's to see the facts substantiate my decisions to proceed with the highest possibility of success and the least risk? Aha! God is faithful to give an anal person like myself proof in the Bible and specifically in the examples throughout this chapter of Hebrews. It's a long chapter of stories of faith, but it is worth reading, as it examples and substantiates God's faithfulness. It also communicates as we read of these people's character and resolve, that they had a peace in walking through with their faith in spite of the sacrifices and persecution they may have had to endure.
Dear Lord, thank you for reminding me of your faithfulness and how I can garner that faith in my life and the matters that of my life and ministry. May I call upon the Biblical examples of faith in Hebrews to encourage me and give me peace knowing that as I follow your will and call, I can have peace in the outcome of things that I cannot see, but have the assurance of your faithfulness.
