Pass it On

Tim Savage

Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. (2 Timothy 2:1-2)
The apostle Paul wrote the book of Timothy and he was very intentional about teaching others, not only about Jesus Christ, but also about the need for those others to then pass those truths on. Paul invested a lot in to Timothy to prepare him to take the baton and we have the same responsibility to train the next generation to share the gospel in relevant ways to their contemporaries.

Pastor Wayne is investing this next season in training and preparing leaders to take the torch in to the future. We must not let our skill, experience, craft, knowledge and passion pass away with us. Those were given to us as gifts from God to steward and invest wisely for the greatest gain. We all need to pour time, energy and resources in to "Timothys" that God brings to us.

It's so easy to get caught up in our own schedules and to-do lists and neglect our responsibility to teach and mentor.
I have a specific assignment to download all that God has taught me to the ministries that I serve. I need to be intentional to comment, suggest, teach, encourage and coach. I cannot allow laziness or contentedness to douse the flame. Often it takes courage and discipline to continue to teach, it's just easier to do it yourself or let it slide. Accountability and gracious confrontation are sometimes necessary in order for growth and improvement and I need to stay sharp in order to produce sharp students.
Dear Heavenly Father,

Help me to stay sharp with my wits about me. Help me never to lose the heart to teach, correct and encourage. Please grant me the ability to produce Timothys that will be even better than me.

In Jesus name,
