God's Landing Place

Marcus Sanders

"But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it." (1Cor. 10:13NLT)
I remember how important it was to have in my Math textbook examples to find the solution for "x". The same is true in life; most of the answers to our problems can be solved if we follow the examples found in the Bible. Paul says to the Corinthian Church that the story of Israel's wilderness journey towards the Promise Land gives example and instructions for us that we might not desire evil as they did. In verses 7-10, Paul lists several examples of those who walked into temptation. They were moved by desire, cravings and attitudes towards serving themselves and grabbing for things that did not belong in their life. The last example was that their grumbling brought destruction by the Destroyer, (possibly from the Angel who brought God's judgment on the Egyptians). Then Paul says, "Now these happened to them as an example, but they were written down forour instruction."
God has such a high hope for us. Without the examples to instruct us to solve "x", we would most certainly walk on the same land mines. I believe following God without these biblical examples or instructions can be like crossing a busy street blindfolded. God wants us to win, and the examples in the Bible gives a greater insight to what pleases Him.Temptation is not sin. The world lays wide open before us. Even with the laws of the land, there are many things that are accessible to us. Idolatry is accessible; immorality is accessible until you get caught and grumbling has no jail time. Many temptations are accessible without breaking man’s laws. Though there are many accessible portals - not all is profitable not all builds up, and not all lead to eternal life. What is permissible may not always please God. God wants me to win and he has a plan. His plan is to win over my selfish desires. He has alanding placefor me so that when temptations come I can walk with Him through it. It’s not a place of running away from, but a place to walk to God and not give in to sin. Temptation could be an urge to fly off the handle. How many times I wanted to tell someone what I think, or vocally communicate to a turtle on the freeway. Selfish attitudes and grumbling are the temptations that bring me close to be destroyed by the destroyer,(the Devil). When I choose to solve "x" God's way I confront temptation on God's landing place and walk with Him.
Father, thank you for sending Your Holy Spirit through Christ to instruct me through the Bible to live a life pleasing to You. Holy Spirit, You have made me alive to be the man of God who will declare Your praises. Continue Your sanctifying work within me that I may become more and more like Jesus. Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I and instruct me to Your landing place in life's difficulties. In Jesus Name.
