PASTORS' DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Make It PermanentMicah Simpson
"Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; and confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our hands." (Psalm 90:17)
It is easy to labor and not see any fruit. It is easy to labor and not see anything remain or last longer than the natural 2 week hype period. It is easy to work and serve in ministry but yet not see anything be solid and strong for a long length of time. That is why we absolutely need the favor of God! Because it is him who works the entire process, from beginning to end, and if we desire to see anything last beyond a few weeks, we must pray for Gods favor so that he will confirm and give permanence to the work of our hands.
Sometimes I try and force permanence by my own will power. But I can only imagine the permanence that can happen when it is the Lord who confirms the work of my hands. John tells it to us in this way, "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine and you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing."
Just as David prayed, I pray the same, that God would confirm the work of my hands. I pray that I would walk in full reliance on you God, that I would never try and take things into my own hands, because apart from you I can do nothing! I pray that you would bring permanence to all that I do, because life is short, and I do not want to walk in foolishness or waste away the time that you have given me!
