The Danger of Being "All Ears"
"If you just listen and don't obey, it is like looking at your face in a mirror but doing nothing to improve your appearance. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you keep looking steadily into God's perfect law ... and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it" (James 1:23-25 NLT).WE CAN CONFUSE:
- INSPIRATION for TRANSFORMATION
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires" (2 Tim. 4:3).
- KNOWLEDGE for MATURITY
"...always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth" (2 Tim. 3:7).
- AGREEMENT for OBEDIENCE
"Not all people who sound religious are really godly. They may refer to Me as 'Lord,' but they still won't enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is whether they obey My Father in heaven" (Matt. 7:21).
"If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world" (James 1:26-27).
- Pure faith is WALK, not just TALK.
"Dear brothers and sisters, what's the use of saying you have faith if you don't prove it by your actions? That kind of faith can't save anyone" (James 2:14).
- Without action we can DECEIVE ourselves.
"Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share..." (1 Tim. 6:18).
Do one GOOD WORK each day this week.
